How to easily check e-challan status and make your e-Challan online payment through Parivahan Sewa portal parivahan.gov.in for all vehicle owners.
Traffic violations nowadays are monitored more strictly than ever. With high-definition CCTV systems, automated number plate recognition, and digital enforcement, most traffic challans are now generated electronically, called e-Challan.
Because the challan is created digitally, the Government also allows citizens to check and pay e-Challan online from their mobile or computer without visiting any traffic office.
If you have received an SMS regarding a challan, or if you want to check whether any traffic challan is pending on your vehicle, this article will walk you through the complete process in a very simple and detailed way.
What Is an e-Challan?
An e-Challan is a digital traffic challan generated by traffic police or automated cameras when a vehicle violates any road safety rule. Now that India uses CCTV-based enforcement in most cities, many challans are generated using:
- Speed cameras
- CCTV footage
- ANPR systems (Automatic Number Plate Recognition)
- Traffic police hand-held devices
Whenever your vehicle violates a rule, an SMS is sent to the mobile number linked with the vehicle, containing the challan number and amount. Even if you did not receive the SMS, you can still check your challan online using your vehicle number, driving licence number, or challan number.
Why Should You Pay Your e-Challan Online?
Paying your challan online is not only convenient but also required within a fixed time period.
Benefits of Online Payment
- No need to visit any traffic office
- Instant confirmation of payment
- Downloadable challan receipt
- Secure payment options
- Avoid late fees, court summons, or legal issues
Important Notice
You must pay your challan within 60 days of its issuance. If you fail to do so, the challan automatically moves to the court, and you will need to settle it legally. Once it reaches the court, you cannot pay it online.
